About Nicole and NICK
My name is Nicole Acedo but I was originally Nicole Laping from Winnipeg Canada.
When I was single I traveled around the world learning about different cultures and meeting new people. I have worked in social services, primarily in the area of mental health and addictions, and facilitated many workshops . I met my husband at a work training and the next thing I knew I went from a prairie girl who was used to fleeing 40 below weather to a California girl who can practice yoga outside every day of the year. I was certified to teach Hatha and Vinyasa yoga by Shawna Schenk on Mission Beach. I have provided free yoga to homeless women and transitional aged youth in drop in centers in downtown San Diego. Currently I offer lunch hour yoga, before and after work classes to my work colleagues at the San Diego Blood Bank. I also offer yoga classes and retreats in office settings, in the park and on the beach.
The acronym, NICK, was developed shortly after our favourite dad, Nick Laping passed away in 2009 from Acute Myleoid Leukemia four weeks after his diagnosis. He and our family received amazing support from our friends and incredible care from the staff on the GD6 ward at the Health Sciences Center in Winnipeg. My mom and I developed care packages for patients and families on the ward using the acronym NICK (nurture yourself and your loved one; be inspired by the strength you see around you; find comfort in the care you receive; accept kindness of others and be kind to yourself). I believe strongly in encouraging us all to Be Nurturing, Inspiring, Courageous and Kind to ourselves, to those around us and to the world.
Please consider donating blood and platelets in honour of our Dad at the San Diego Blood Bank www.sandiegobloodbank.org or your local blood services.
I look forward to you joining me for a class or a retreat.
